Promotions
Deals that price themselves — percent or amount off, a set price, 2 for $5, buy one get one — on every till, the table bill and your website.
A promotion is a deal your tills give by themselves. You set it once under Promotions (in your Catalog or Menu section) and from that moment every till, every table bill and your website price it the same way — the receipt names the deal under the item and shows what the customer saved.
The kinds
- Percent off — 20% off every matching item.
- Amount off — $1 off each one (never below zero).
- Set price — each one sells at $5 while the deal runs (only when that is lower).
- N for a price — "2 for $5", mix and match across the items it applies to.
- Buy some, get some — "buy 2, get 1 free" (or at a percent off); the cheapest ones are the free ones.
What, when and where
Choose the items or sections it applies to — or everything. Give it first and last days, days of the week and a time of day if it is a happy hour; a window that ends after midnight runs into the next morning. Pick where: at the till and on table bills, on your website, or both. Leave anything blank and the deal simply always runs.
How the till decides
- Each line gets the deal that was live when it was ordered: at the counter, the moment the sale is rung; at a table, the moment the dish was ordered. A drink ordered at 5:55 and paid at 7 keeps its happy-hour price; one ordered at 6:05 does not.
- One deal per item. When two could apply, the one that saves the customer more goes first and the other takes what is left.
- A website order keeps exactly the prices it was paid at — a deal you add or pause after the customer paid changes nothing at pickup or at the table.
- A "2 for $5" or "buy one get one" spreads its saving across every item in the group — so returning any one of them gives back exactly what was paid for it, and tax is charged on what was actually paid.
- Staff can't change a deal at the till, and a deal never counts against a cashier's discount limit — it is your price, not their discretion.
Pausing and editing
Pause a promotion and no till gives it until you resume; edit it and every till and your website have the new deal within a minute — including tills that were offline when you changed it (they pick it up as soon as they reconnect). Archive it and it leaves every list; past receipts keep what they printed.
In your reports
Reports show Promotions given on their own, apart from discounts your staff typed, so you can see what each deal did.
Promotions are included on every plan. They are not yet offered in East Africa.
